College Life

 The ScrapRoom Blog is continuing it's Patterned Paper Series with the layout above and tips from Brenda Carpenter.  The post includes instructions to complete the layout above. Easy to print for ideas or a quick page later. I saved all my notes from her class several years ago and applied her tips and designs with current products.

Hi! I created this page lifting one of Brenda Carpenter's pages from her Patterned Paper series that we are revisiting at The ScrapRoom.  Today, I added an analysis of how my lift differs from Brenda's original and how it may affect your eye movement and the mood of the page at The ScrapRoom Blog.  Hope you like it!

I created these cards with the October 2015 Doubleshot Kit and Papertrey Ink's Fall Florals stamp set and die cut.  Good day to stay in.  It's in the forties and damp outside here. 

Freaky Fast Friday at The ScrapRoom

This layout was made with the October 2015 Freaky Fast pages recipe.  Basically, a list of sizes to cut sheets of paper is provided.  All you need to do is choose enough sheets of coordinating papers to cut for your recipe, move the papers around until you achieve the look that you like, adhere and embellish.  Viola, it's done!

My Freaky Fast Tips

1. I like to use a line that I have already cut into. So, my first tip is to make sure that I can cut the required dimensions from my scraps. If not, I go to another line from my kits.

2. Pick a favorite pattern to be the largest piece, or one that is a subtle pattern that goes especially well with your favorite piece.

3. Take advantage of having two sides to each pattern and check out your back sides for your winning combination.

The photograph was taken in Punta Cana at Dolphin Explorer, four - five years ago I think.  Two years ago, we went back and it was entirely different.  It had become much more popular and not nearly the same experience.  We would not do it again.  The photograph was taken by a photographer at the park/center.  Not sure why my hair looks so red but I like it!  :)

The ScrapRoom October 2015: Amy Tangerine, Finders Keepers

Two weeks ago, we adopted a bulldog.  His name is Gus, (short for Gustavo).  He was a breeder who was forfeited to a shelter once they had no more use for him.  He is beautiful, and the sweetest dog that I ever owned.  Maybe, he truly appreciates the tender loving care that my family is giving him. Gus is sure to be the subject of scrapbooking pages to come.  Not at all related to the rest of this post but it's a general update of what is going on around here.  :)

The ScrapRoom Kits are posted and available.   Since I have been on the TSR team, this month is my favorite grouping of scrapbooking line combinations.  While the pages came together rather effortlessly, I was, also, delighted with the results.  Fun papers, fantastic embellishments, a little bit of themes all made for an enjoyable time of creating my pages for the October Ideas page.  When I look at The ScrapRoom Ideas page, I'm reminded how great the kits really are.  The Doubleshot is a "must-have" and I expect it to sell out quickly!

The pictures above were taken in December of 2013 when we stopped in D.C. on our way to my parents in Georgia.  My boys are at an age and mindset where every photographic moment is a negotiation.  I think that I need to lay down the law -- photos are non-negotiable!

Freaky Fast Formula

Another animal page from the Out of Africa Park in Arizona.  I used my TSR kit's Crate Paper Wonder line.  We are revisiting a past series at The ScrapRoom Blog called Freaky Fast to help TSR members Get More Pages Done.  It's wonderful how different the designer's pages turned out.  Hope you head over, check out the formula and Heather Robertson's result; and, give it a whirl!  Hope you have a great weekend!

A Couple New Pages With Sept TSR

Using Echo Park Papers Wild Life.  I love this line!

Crate Paper Wonder is wonderful too.  My favorite paper was that coral pink.  I only wish that I had more of it.  It's on the back of the flower print, Wild Spirit.  I pulled little bits and pieces from a few older kits to embellish this one.

I'm not sure how to do this.  Do I duplicate a post? Do I not post a layout here when I've posted it at The ScrapRoom?  The best thing that I can think of is to try to say something original here and point my readers, (however few), to The ScrapRoom post.  Any suggestions? I'd love to hear them to help me decide.  Today, I've posted the Story Behind the Page on The ScrapRoom Blog.

The ScrapRoom September 2015: Jillibean Soup Sew Happy

This page was created from photographs taken at Old Sturbridge Village, a living museum in Massachusetts. We stopped there for a day on our way to Boston from New Haven, Connecticut last month. At this specific spot, a character was explaining how they dyed their yarns.  The Jillibean Soup Sew Happy is part of the Doubleshot Kit at The ScrapRoom.  The page was created as part of a class series being revisited at The ScrapRoom Blog.

The ScrapRoom September 2015: BasicGrey B-Side

The last few weeks have been such a blur!  We had a vacation, needed to get ready for school and school began.  Tonight is Back To School Night for my Freshman son, Jason.

The picture above was taken in my very first bedroom.  My grandmother made my curtains and I was able to pick out the fabric. The print is so 70's, is it not? :)

This photograph is the only picture that I have from that time, in my room.  It is highly valued for it's nostalgia.  With me are my beloved dog, Apache, and my brother.

I loved using the BasicGrey B-Side from The ScrapRoom September 2015 Cafe Club "Flavors of the Month" Kit because of some of its' iconic images and pink paper for this picture.  I love the bright mix of colors!  The brads that I found in my stash were not quite the right shade of pink so I used a bright pink Sharpee to darken them.  Then, I decided to use a black Sharpee to color a Tim Holtz bookplate piece.  That's when it occurred to me that I love how my dear scrappy friend, Deanna, pretties up some of her pages with black accents.  I quickly added the black, punched strip and matted the clockface.

A Perfect Summer Day

Jason is enjoying the ocean on vacation a few years back.  I created this page with 10 different patterned papers and three different lines that I thought worked quite nicely together: Crate Paper Journey, Crate Paper Poolside and Carta Bella Cool Summer.  All came from kits at The ScrapRoom. This page is up at Sketches in Thyme today and was created with a Brenda Ragsdale.

Grand Canyon Adventures

The overnight trip that I took with Jason and Kurt by mule down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon may have been the most fantastic adventure that I have ever taken.  It may even trump going to Australia by myself when I was in my 20's.  I loved documenting our story with the Crate Paper Journey line from The ScrapRoom's August 2016 FOTM.  The page above shares my review from TripAdvisor, which I wrote very shortly after we had returned from Arizona.

I am still overwhelmed with gratitude that my two boys and I were able to share this adventure.

The switchback's were incredible.  They were scary and beautiful.

I liked the photograph of the return trail above that came with the park's description of the trip.

I can hardly believe that I took the pictures above from sitting on a mule over cliffs on the Grand Canyon.  Even the memories are surreal. I hope my children never forget that this challenge that they took with their mom.
